Themes
Disney's Moana is another wonderful example of religious themes in movies. Like so many films, you are usually able to find a connection between both the storyline and characters to various forms of Religious context. In this film, three main religious themes that are present include, Special Birth, Nature Spirituality and Reincarnation. These three themes are developed throughout the entire film. Special Birth comes through when we see the connection Moana has to the ocean, which foreshadows the later journey she has with help from the ocean. The second theme is Nature Spirituality. This is shown in the film through the island. The island means everything to the people. They respect it and try their best to use it only in ways that they believe are safe for the Island. The final theme of Reincarnation is presented through the Grandmother of Moana. After the grandmother passes away, she is shown later in the film reincarnated as a Stingray that also helps Moana along her journey. Moana is unique in the way it presents each theme. It includes many different religious beliefs. (Moana).
